The ColdSpark® consortium gathered for its fifth consortium meeting and second official review with the European Commission in Stavanger, Norway. The event marked a key milestone as the project enters its final 12 months, with partners aligning efforts to bring ColdSpark® technology closer to market readiness.

The meeting included detailed discussions on cross-work package coordination, aimed at ensuring seamless integration of activities and progress toward ColdSpark®’s shared objectives. With the clock ticking on the final project year, the consortium’s focus remains sharp: demonstrating a clean, catalyst-free methane splitting solution that produces sustainable hydrogen and valuable carbon without direct CO₂ emissions.

A central point of discussion was the continued work at the SEID laboratory, where engineers are optimising the reactor at a larger scale. Their efforts are vital in advancing the  ColdSpark® methane-splitting technology for industrial use, using either natural gas or biomethane as feedstock.

The consortium also visited the test site in Risavika, where the larger-scale reactor will be installed. This industrial facility managed by NORCE meets all safety requirements and offers unlimited feedstock availability, making it ideal for validating the process under real-world conditions needed for the larger scale experiments.

As ColdSpark® accelerates in the development of the technology, the project team remains dedicated to offering a flexible, low-CAPEX and OPEX solution for the energy transition to support the EU climate goals with a clean and cost-effective alternative for hydrogen and carbon production.

Stay tuned as we continue this exciting journey as it advances towards its goals.
